I-55 Crash Sends Seven to Hospital

A six-car accident and vehicle fire on the northbound lane of I-55 at Madison Street sent seven patients to area hospitals Sunday, according to Tri-State Fire Protection District Fire Chief Michelle Gibson.

Of the injured, two were transported on basic life support and five were transported on advanced life support, said Gibson. Police are investigating the cause of the accident which called on crews from 8 fire departments. 

Gibson added that a pregnant woman not involved in the crash approached crews saying that her water broke. She was also transported to an area hospital.
