MacNeal Hospital Earns Leapfrog "A" Grade

MacNeal Hospital has received a new Leapfrog Hospital Safety "A" Grade for meeting the highest patient safety standards in the United States

BERWYN, IL MacNeal Hospital has received a new Leapfrog Hospital Safety "A" Grade for meeting the highest patient safety standards in the United States.

MacNeal received the top grade in Leapfrog's Spring 2018 Hospital Safety Grade report, which grades hospitals on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms to patients.

A 374-bed teaching hospital with more than 550 medical staff members in 50 specialties, MacNeal has provided quality, patient-centered care to Berwyn and the near west suburbs since 1919.

"We make patient safety a top priority 24 hours a day," said Mary Elizabeth (M.E.) Cleary, president of MacNeal Hospital. "We are gratified to be recognized by The Leapfrog Group as one of the best hospitals in the country in protecting patients from harm."

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the gold standard rating for patient safety, compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts. It is administered by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit hospital safety watchdog.

The safety grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Each hospital receives a single A, B, C, D or F grade.
