Mask Dispute, Raccoon Calls: Burr Ridge Cops

BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last few weeks, Burr Ridge police have handled cases involving a mask dispute, raccoons, dogs at large, stolen checks and banging sounds. Here is information from the latest Burr Ridge police blotter:

Mask dispute

  • An officer stood by Dec. 6 at Life Time fitness center, 601 Burr Ridge Parkway, while a member became involved in an argument with men for not properly wearing masks while working out.

Raccoon calls

  • A sick or injured raccoon was reported on the roadway about 8 a.m. Dec. 5 in the 10S400 block of Glenn Driver. It appeared to have rabies or distemper. A police officer shot it. A neighbor collected the raccoon and disposed of it. An hour later, a resident called about a raccoon suspected to have rabies on the northeast corner of the roundabout near 87th Street and Johnston Road. The officer found the raccoon curled up in a ball sleeping. There were no obvious signs of injury, rabies or distemper. The officer left the sleeping raccoon. Two hours after that, another raccoon was reported in a woman's back yard. The officer who responded to the previous incidents found it walking normally and showing no signs of injury or disease. The raccoon was asleep. The officer referred the resident to a licensed trapper who could relocate the animal.

Dogs at large

  • Residents in the 9100 block of Forest Edge Lane told police about 11:30 a.m. Dec. 13 that a neighbor's dogs left the property and at one time chased one of them. The neighbors said they were aware of the issue and were having the electric fence company check their fence. An office warned the neighbors about the offense of having a dog at large.

Checks stolen in mail

  • A business owner in the 7600 block of County Line Road reported Dec. 4 that 29 checks totaling $9,629 had been stolen after they were put in the mail. The checks have not been deposited, so the business has not lost any money. This is one of a number of thefts of business checks in the mail in Burr Ridge. The postal inspector's office has been involved in the investigation.

Banging sounds

  • A homeowner in the 700 block of South Drive told police that she and her two daughters heard two loud banging sounds coming from their garage about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 14. They did not see anything. Officers searched around the house, but could find nothing.

Draining pool

  • A resident in the 400 block of Devon Drive drained his pool water into the storm sewer Dec. 17. A neighbor called police. The resident said his pool is salt water and does not have any chemicals. Because the water was starting to pool in the street, the resident agreed to stop or drain it in his yard.

Large hole

  • A resident called to express concern Dec. 15 about a large hole dug on the north side of 79th Street and Woodside Lane. The hole was taped off, but extra cones were placed around the hole to make the area more noticeable until ComEd could be contacted.
