Neighbors Oppose Costco Plan, Say It'll Kill Home Values
Don't put the store amid a "luxury residential neighborhood," one resident said.

BURR RIDGE, IL – Residents in Burr Ridge's Fieldstone subdivision this week expressed opposition to a proposed next-door Costco development.
Recently, the owner of the CNH property at 6900 Veterans Boulevard entered a contingent contract with developer Bridge Industrial.
The developer is planning a Costco and other businesses for the property.

At this week's Village Board meeting, resident Sam Bassali, who lives in the 6800 block of Fieldstone Drive, called CNH a "fantastic neighbor."
But he said he fears a nearby Costco would kill property values and increase crime.

"To bring in a big-box retailer in the midst of a luxury residential neighborhood is absolutely unacceptable," Bassali said.
Lisa Turano, who lives in the 6900 block of Fieldstone, described CNH as a "passive industrial occupant" of the 110-acre property.
She said Fieldstone residents were alerted in late July to the potential of a Costco when they received a rough rendering of the proposed development. (The village is blaming a Burr Ridge Park District board member for leaking the document, accusing the official of breaching "executive session protocol.")

That rendering shows that the Costco would be backed up to homes on Fieldstone.
Turano said the Costco would cause increases in litter, random traffic and crime. It also would reduce the "quiet enjoyment of our homes," she said.
"The operation of a retail warehouse will result in the immediate reduction of our home values," Turano said.
The store would be in the backyards of 45 houses, she said.
"We are intent on stopping this development," Turano said.
In response to the comments, Mayor Gary Grasso said the village has not received a formal proposal from the CNH owner.
"It is their property. It is not our property," he said. "We have to consider any proposal that is formally presented."
