BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge is considering banning short-term rentals such as Airbnbs and Vrbos, as other suburbs have done.

On Monday, the village's Plan Commission is set to hold a hearing on a proposal to prohibit short-term rentals of less than 30 days.

According to a village memo, Burr Ridge has not seen widespread use of Airbnbs and Vrbos in town. But it has received complaints in the last few years about houses being rented out for short times as "party houses," with amenities such as pools.

Burr Ridge has no regulations directly addressing short-term rentals, though they are most closely associated with hotels, which are banned in single-family neighborhoods, the memo said.

In June, Darien aldermen voted unanimously to ban short-term rentals of less than 30 days. A Burr Ridge analysis shows such rentals are also prohibited in Hinsdale, Willowbrook, Oak Brook, Indian Head Park and Oakbrook Terrace.
