Pond Activities Worry Burr Ridge Police

An officer was called about teens ice-fishing and a hockey game on a pond, police say.

BURR RIDGE, IL — Burr Ridge police received a couple calls in recent days about children standing on ice on ponds, with officers fearing they may fall through, according to police reports. In the afternoon of Jan. 20, they were called because of three teens ice-fishing on the pond near McClintock Drive.

"There are no posted signs anywhere near the pond, and all three subjects had fishing licenses," Officer Michael Cervenka said in his report. "I kindly requested they fish elsewhere or use extreme caution on the pond. The teens said they would go to another spot to fish."

Later that same afternoon, Cervenka was called about children playing hockey on the pond between Waterside Place and Trent Court. Their parents were watching. "The parents felt the ice was thick enough to play hockey," Cerveka said in his report.
