Snapchat comment attracted police attention. Family later asked for extra protection.

BURR RIDGE, IL — The Burr Ridge Police Department on Monday released a report on its recent activities, which included handling the fallout from a high school student's Snapchat post, illegal dumping and a late-night basketball game. According to the Burr Ridge Police:
- Officers joined Willow Springs Police detectives Nov. 19 in investigating a racially insensitive post on Snapchat by a Lyons Township High School South Campus student. It was posted over the summer and is now being recirculated. Later in the day, a member of the student's family asked for police to do extra patrols by her house because many of her family member's fellow students were offended by the Snapchat post.

- A resident reported garbage dumped at the end of the cul-de-sac near Walnut Court and Shag Bark Lane. The report was made Nov. 18. Officer found a receipt in the garbage and spoke to a woman and her son on Provencal Drive about it. She said she had friends over more than two weeks ago who took the garbage from the house "to get rid" of it. She said she would remove the trash. The officer warned her that such dumping violated the law.
- Police were called about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 16 on Forest Hill Road about a complaint that a resident was feeding wildlife. An officer was asked to remind the resident that such feeding violated village ordinance. The officer was unable to contact the resident.
- Someone reported a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Brookhaven Marketplace about noon Nov. 16. The driver was asking people to approach the vehicle for signatures. Officers spoke with the driver, who said he was soliciting signatures for state Rep. Jim Durkin. There were no issues.
- Police were called about a suspicious vehicle shortly before 9:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at Harvester Park. A female driving a 2014 Lexus said she was checking the basketball court for ice and that she was waiting for friends to arrive to play a game. Police determined there were no issues.
