Room and Board Oak Brook Hosts R.E.A.D. With the Dogs Event

Hinsdale Humane Society brings together families and dogs at Room & Board Oak Brook on April 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a special R.E.A.D. with the Dogs event.

R.E.A.D. stands for Reading Education Assistance Dogs, typically a program in which Delta/Pet Partner-registered animals visit libraries, schools and other learning programs to work with children on their reading skills.

This event brings together R.E.A.D. dogs (and a cat!) to interact with and read stories to children ages pre-K through 4th grade.

More than four therapy teams will be present at this free event, providing story time in multiple sections of the store at four different times, staggered on the half hour so children will be able to attend different groups throughout the two-hour event.

The reading sessions are expected to last for 15 minutes each, followed by time to interact with the animals and work on craft projects.

Kym Iffert, Hinsdale Humane Society’s Humane Educator, will present dog safety demonstrations on a variety of topics, such as how to approach a dog.

Attendees can look forward to giveaways, and a special raffle featuring a Room & Board children’s Perch table and chairs set.
