CHICAGO, April. 17, 2014 – Roy E. Hofer, former president of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, is pleased to announce that he has established an independent practice by opening the Law Offices of Roy E. Hofer. Since announcing his departure from the firm that bore his name in October 2013, Hofer has provided mediation, arbitration, special master and early neutral evaluator services in intellectual property cases. In addition, Hofer counsels clients involved in district court and appellate IP litigation.
“This phase of my career is providing me the opportunity to apply my 50-plus years of experience as an IP litigator while focusing on the alternative dispute resolution practice that I have come to appreciate as an integral part of complex IP matters,” said Hofer.
Before receiving his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1961, Hofer served as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office then as a patent agent at Exxon Corporation. In 1961, Hofer joined the predecessor to Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione and was a partner for more than 50 years. He obtained the largest jury award in the firm’s history, a $102 million verdict in a patent infringement litigation related to plastic films for packaging meats.
