Ruse Burglars Target Burr Ridge Resident: Cops
One of the suspects claimed to be working on street repairs, police said.

BURR RIDGE, IL – A Burr Ridge resident opened her door Friday to a man who said he was working on street repairs.
But it turned out he and another person were burglars, police said.
The incident happened about 2 p.m. near 91st Street and Circle Ridge Drive.

The man knocked on the door, told the woman about his purported work and asked her to walk him into the backyard of her property, according to a Burr Ridge police news release. The resident saw a second person sitting in a white SUV, possibly a Toyota, with the vehicle pulling up the driveway, police said.
While the resident was distracted, at least one other person entered the home and stole valuables, police said.

This is known as a ruse burglary, in which one person distracts a resident while another commits crimes. In many instances, elderly people are targeted.
