Solicitors In Burr Ridge Operating Without Permits: Police

In recent weeks, police have dealt with a number of solicitors who are going door to door without permission.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent weeks, Burr Ridge police have either cited or warned door-to-door solicitors from at least three pest control companies. According to reports, the solicitors were operating without permits.

On July 9, Burr Ridge police cited two solicitors with Utah-based Aptive Environmental on charges of soliciting without permits. Later in the month, Elmhurst police also ticketed two of Aptive's salespeople. The company's solicitors has had problems with authorities around the country, media reports show.

But Aptive is not unusual. Apparently, pest control companies like door-to-door soliciting as a way to drum up business. On July 29, a resident in the 11600 block of White Oak Court called police about a pest control company solicitor that came by, even though he was believed to have been cited before. The solicitor left in a black Nissan SUV. Police checked the area, but were unable to find him.

An officer spoke with the solicitor, who worked for Edge Pest Control, another national company, according to a report. The officer issued a warning and informed the solicitor on how to get a permit, the report said.

The next day, police got a complaint about a solicitor from West Chicago-based Joshua's Pest Control, an officer's report said. The person was said to be going door to door without a permit. A warning was issued, the first for Joshua's Pest Control, police said.
