Suspicious Cars, Door-Locking Dog: Burr Ridge Cops
Officers spot a stolen Mercedes, but the driver sped off, police said.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent days, Burr Ridge police officers have dealt with issues involving a difficult Starbucks customer, a door-locking dog, a stolen Mercedes and a pole-hitting driver. Here is the latest information from the Burr Ridge Police Department:
- When a resident arrived home about 1 a.m. Feb. 9 in the 6900 block of Fieldstone Drive, a dark sedan parked in front of the house sped off toward a dead end, then left at a high rate of speed. The car was going too fast for the homeowner to obtain a license plate number on any cameras. The sedan possibly belongs to another subdivision resident, as it never left the neighborhood.
- Five Burr Ridge police officers witnessed a stolen 2018 Mercedes and a dark SUV stopped at a traffic light while heading south on County Line Road about 4 a.m. Feb. 9. The cars sped off. The Mercedes was last seen going east on German Church Road, while the dark SUV was last seen headed north on Interstate 55.
- Surveillance footage showed the driver of a sedan making a fast U-turn in a parking lot in the 900 block of Garfield Avenue and sliding into a pole, causing it to fall. The driver checked the damage to the car before driving away. The camera was too far away to see any other details. The incident happened about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 9.
- A driver stopped in the right turn lane for no apparent reason about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Burr Ridge Parkway and County Line Road. The driver told an officer that he was Googling for directions. The officer warned him that the right turn lane of a busy intersection was not the place to pull over. The driver agreed and left without any problems.
- A DuPage County public works employee wanted access to the easement at a house on Falling Water Drive to locate utilities at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 10. But on the resident's orders, a guard barred the employee from coming in. The resident wanted someone to accompany the employee while on the property. The resident and employee made arrangements for that to happen.
- The driver of a silver Jeep was seen looking into two mailboxes about 3:30 p.m. Feb. 10 in the 6400 block of Hillcrest Drive. The person, who was wearing a hoodie, then left the area. A subdivision camera caught the Jeep's license plate number.
- An officer was able to enter a 2012 Volkswagen in the 400 block of 87th Street after the owner's dog hit the door lock button with the keys inside.
- Starbucks, 515 Village Center Drive, asked police to deal with a customer who refused to leave shortly after 3 p.m. Feb. 11. The shop was notified by corporate that the customer was no longer allowed at any Starbucks because of 10 years of complaints by other customers. Two officers stood by while the customer left without any problems. He was warned that returning could result in a trespassing charge.
