Transplant Surgeon Pejman Radkani, MD, MSPH, Joins Loyola Medicine

Transplant surgeon Pejman Radkani, MD, MSPH, has joined Loyola Medicine.

Transplant surgeon Pejman Radkani, MD, MSPH, has joined Loyola Medicine as an assistant professor in the division of intra-abdominal transplant.

Dr. Radkani has undergone advanced training in liver, kidney and pancreas transplants, including living-donor liver and kidney transplants. Dr. Radkani also performs surgeries for liver, bile duct and pancreatic tumors and specializes in minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic techniques.

Many of the surgeries Dr. Radkani performs are complex, but he uses non-technical terms to explain the procedures to patients.

"I encourage patients to ask any question, and I let them ask the same questions over and over again if necessary," Dr. Radkani said. "I try to keep my relationships with patients a little personal, outside the formal physician-patient relationship."

Dr. Radkani earned a medical degree from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Iran and a master of science in public health from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Radkani completed a residency in general surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. He then completed four fellowships in advanced surgical techniques: surgical oncology at Mount Sinai Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami Beach; hepato-pancreato-biliary and abdominal multi-organ transplant at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai in New York City; minimally invasive hepato-pancreato-biliary and living donor liver transplant at Yonsei University Health System in Seoul, South Korea and minimally invasive hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at L'Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris.

Dr. Radkani is board certified in general surgery. He sees patients at the Loyola Outpatient Center in Maywood.
