Two KBH staff members receive honorary awards from LeadingAge

Bistro ’33 Manager Oscar Lacson and painter/Maintenance Assistant Dave Rendek of King-Bruwaert House (KBH) in Burr Ridge were presented with individual 2023 LeadingAge-Illinois Honoring Excellence Awards during the organization’s annual meeting and conference held March 6-7, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center. LeadingAge is one of the largest, most respected senior provider associations serving Illinois.

“We are very proud that Oscar and Dave were presented with these awards,” said CEO Terri Bowen. “Both have shown great dedication to their positions and their commitment to KBH has made a major difference for our residents.”

Lacson was selected for the Heart and Hands Award – presented to an individual who embraces person-centered care and service on a regular basis. A 12-year employee, Lacson was recognized for the exceptional relationships he has built with residents, staff, families, and visitors while responding to their culinary needs and values. As an outstanding, innovative Food Service professional, he is recognized for going above and beyond all duties to create the best Bistro dining experience possible.

An avid antique collector, Lacson often displays historic pieces from his vast collection within the Bistro. He also creates beautiful seasonal and theme displays that become conversation pieces for all to enjoy. He is well known for his stunning fruit sculptures that brighten any occasion. Lacson also hosts presentations to share his culinary skills and knowledge.

Lacson strongly believes in a personalized approach for Bistro customers to enhance the dining experience. For many who visit the Bistro often, there’s a comfortable feeling because he has made the café warm and welcoming with excellent food.

Dave Rendek received the Strive and Thrive Award for demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to excellence. The award recognizes Rendek for his vision, initiative, and creative problem-solving. A 23-year employee with KBH, Rendek graciously and consistently shares his time, interest, and engaging spirit with residents, coworkers, and family members. He makes the KBH community shine with his excellent painting and ensures everyone is happy with colors and selections.

Outside of work, Rendek is an avid golfer who shares great stories and experiences with residents and staff as a common bond. For years, he has devoted countless hours in maintaining the KBH mini-putting area and bocce ball court. He has worked hard to make sure residents are happy and linked to their recreational interests. For residents who may have a longer walk to reach KBH recreation areas, especially while the campus is under construction, Rendek drives a golf cart to pick them up and take them back to their homes or cars. He has always prioritized the safety and well-being of residents and visitors.

Rendek works closely with many KBH departments and decorating team to make sure the campus reflects clean, color-coordinated, updated rooms and common areas. He brings a positive attitude to all meetings and discussions with residents and staff. He is always willing to go that extra mile in order to make people happy with the final results. Rendek is described as being friendly, approachable, cooperative, talented, and idea-focused.

Both Lacson and Rendek received recognition certificates from LeadingAge that were presented during a morning ceremony at the conference.
