U.S. Olympic Trials: Danny Thomson of Hinsdale Swimming 2nd Event Sunday

The recent Hinsdale Central graduate will participate in the 1,500-meter freestyle Sunday, nearly a week after he finished 35th in the 400-meter freestyle.

grad Danny Thomson will swim the 1,500-meter freestyle event today at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

The 18-year-old is the No. 20 seed in the 96-swimmer event and his qualifying time for the 1,500-free was 15:28.65.

Sunday's races are the preliminaries. The 1,500 final is Monday night. 

Thomson, who will swim next year at Stanford, . He finished his heat in 3:57.29 and did not qualify for the final. He entered the 400 trials seeded 46th out of 136 400-free competitors with a qualifying time of 3:56.44. His time Monday was 35th best.

Thomson broke his own Illinois state record in the 500-yard freestyle last February at the IHSA State Meet. His time was 4:18.86.
