What Burr Ridge Car Thefts Have In Common
These thefts aren't done like the old days, a Burr Ridge police official said.

BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge reported 21 car thefts in 2022 and 2023. All but one had something in common – they were unlocked with the key fobs inside, police said.
In 2022, Burr Ridge responded to 11 car thefts. The next year, there were 10. One of the 10, Deputy Police Chief Marc Loftus told the Village Board, was a "break-in like we used to see back in the old days," meaning the car was locked and had no keys inside.
Police in Burr Ridge and other places repeatedly advise residents to lock their cars and not to leave their key fobs inside.

Thieves are known to check hundreds of door handles to see which ones are unlocked. Then they ransack unlocked ones for key fobs and other valuables.
