Woman Kills Twin Brother Near Burr Ridge: Cops

The woman fatally shot her brother before fighting with her mother, police said.

BURR RIDGE, IL – A woman is accused of killing her twin brother earlier this week in a neighborhood southwest of Burr Ridge, authorities said.

Jamilah Mahan, 23, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery, according to a news release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Her twin brother was identified as Jihad Mahan.

The killing occurred during an altercation late Monday night in the 16W600 block of Mockingbird Lane, the office said.

A DuPage County judge ordered Jamilah Mahan to stay in jail until her trial.

"The senseless act of domestic violence alleged in this case has a serious impact on the entire community. To Jihad's family and friends, I offer my sincere condolences and wish them strength as they mourn the loss of a family member and come to terms with another family member accused of his murder," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release.

Said Sheriff James Mendrick, "(W)e commend the unwavering dedication and bravery of our deputies who responded to the tragic incident involving the loss of a life at the hands of his own sister."
