Woods artist creates unique cards for King-Bruwaert House
Residents enjoy hand-made cards with themes and messages
For some people, selecting just the right card to match the person and occasion requires careful study. Should the card be funny or serious? Is someone celebrating a milestone birthday or anniversary? Does the sentiment express humor, warmth, friendship or sympathy?
Within the King-Bruwaert House (KBH) Bistro ‘33 gift shop, residents and staff can select from a unique collection of hand-made cards created by Woods resident and artist, Rose Ann Hoof. During the past few years, Hoof has created more than 200 cards with themes recognizing seasons, birthdays, holidays, weddings, engagements, new babies, showers, graduations, plus thank you and sympathy notes. She also accepts special requests from those who desire a more personalized theme or a specific numeric reference (ranging from one to 100+).
Hoof’s one-of-a-kind cards are affordable and they do sell fast. Bistro Manager Oscar Lacson works closely with Hoof in ordering the cards and sharing customer comments or preferences.

“Rose Ann’s cards are more than just beautiful,” Lacson said. “These are hand-made, original designs that offer meaningful feelings that represent the residents and families who buy them. The cards give an expression of friendship or other sentiments.”
Hoof took classes to learn the art of card-making. Recently, she connected with KBH Life Enrichment staff to plan card-making classes for residents. She knows there is truly something special about creating a hand-made card with heart-felt intentions. Kits are available to include pictures and themes.

Lacson designed colorful caricatures of Hoof that are featured on the Bistro card display. The caricatures have brought some local fame to Hoof who has been recognized in the hallways by people purchasing her cards.
“People walk up to me and say, ‘so you’re the artist,’ Hoof said. “I think they like to buy something that’s designed by someone they know.”
KBH is fortunate to have an exclusive offering of Hoof’s cards that have now become a hallmark tradition.
