1. 22-year-old hospitalized after shooting in Champaign (wandtv.com) — A 22-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot Wednesday afternoon in the 1300 block of Carver Drive in Champaign, prompting a major response from local law enforcement. Champaign Police are leading the investigation, with help from Urbana officers and other agencies, and are asking nearby residents and businesses to review security footage and share any tips, including anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
   

2. CUPHD distributing free generic Narcan to county residents (wandtv.com) — Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is now giving out a free generic naloxone nasal spray, replacing brand-name Narcan, to help reverse opioid overdoses across Champaign County. Residents can pick up kits at CUPHD's lobby on Kenyon Road in Champaign or request delivery, as officials report sharply reduced local overdose deaths in recent years.
   

3. Local Youth Win Big at Illinois State Fair (vermilioncountyfirst.com subscription) — Champaign-area 4-H members brought home a large haul of Champion, Reserve Champion, and Inspire awards from the Illinois State Fair's General Projects show in Springfield. Youth from Champaign, Ford, Iroquois, and Vermilion counties excelled in everything from civic engagement and computer science to horticulture and visual arts, and locals are invited to learn how to get involved with 4-H in Champaign County.
   

4. Man pleads guilty to 2nd-degree murder in deadly Urbana shooting (wcia.com) — A Champaign man's death in a January Urbana shooting has led to a second-degree murder guilty plea from the accused shooter, Charles T. Lake. Prosecutors in Champaign County will drop six other charges at his Sept. 30 sentencing, after police arrested Lake in Champaign with help from the local SWAT team.
