Champaign Man Indicted On Child Pornography Charges

After an FBI investigation, the 32-year-old was arrested Aug. 9 and will have a chance to enter a plea Wednesday.

URBANA, IL — A Champaign man has been indicted by a grand jury and is set to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography in federal court in Urbana . An indictment was returned on Sept. 5 alleging that he distributed child pornography on Sept. 27, 2016 and possessed computers containing child pornography on July 28 of this year, according to the Department of Justice.

Jaime Breckenridge, 33, of the 2200 block of S. First Street, was arrested in Marion on Aug. 5 after he was charged with the above offenses in a federal criminal complaint, a Justice Department news release said. He was ordered detained at a court appearance Aug. 7. If he is convicted of both offenses, he faces a maximum of 30 years in prison and up to $500,000 in fines.

The charges are the result of an FBI investigation and part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the child sexual exploitation and abuse, according to the release. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elly M. Peirson. (Sign up for Patch's real-time email alerts for the latest news for Champaign — or your Illinois community.
