Champaign Police Investigating Shots Fired Incident

Upon arrival, an officer witnessed a male with a gun fleeing the scene before he was observed discarding the weapon.

On March 22, 2020, at approximately 12:29 a.m., Champaign Police responded to the intersection of Paula Drive and Joanne Lane after hearing shots fired. Upon arrival, an officer witnessed a male with a gun fleeing the scene before he was observed discarding the weapon. Shortly afterwards, the suspect was apprehended by police. Evidence was recovered from the scene, including several shell casings. No injuries were reported.

Miguel Lucio, a 24-year-old male, was arrested for the offense of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession/Use of a Weapon by a Felon. He is currently being held at the Champaign County Correctional Center where he is awaiting future court proceedings.

Although an arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to please call police at 217-351-4545.
