The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recently appointed Jefferson Middle School Eighth Grade Social Studies Teacher Christine Adrian to its Inclusive American History Commission. Adrian is one of eight commission appointees who teach at state schools recommended by professional teachersβ organizations and appointed by the State Superintendent of Education. The Inclusive American History Commission was created to provide assistance to the State Board of Education in revising its social science learning standards. The Commission shall convene to do the following: Adrian is a recipient of the 2011 National Council for the Social Studies Outstanding Middle School Teacher of the Year award and the 2010 Gilder Lehrman Institute of History Illinois History Teacher of the Year. Much of her curricular work within and outside the District has explored the idea of the struggle for justice by marginalized groups of people in United States History.
