City Of Champaign: Public Works Crews Prepared For Winter

This week the Public Works Department conducted its annual Snow & Ice Training for staff who are part of the snow and ice crews. Training covered policies, status of materials, and safety practices for cold weather, avoiding fatigue, and maintaining equipment. Crews then had hands-on training with using the equipment at the salt dome, how to use the brine and calcium pump house, attaching spreaders to trucks, and utilizing the end loader for plowing. After the hands-on training, staff reviewed updated maps and then drove their routes to refamiliarize themselves with the area and check for any new potential obstacles.
