Fire Department Responds To Alabama Avenue Residential Fire April 22

The Champaign Fire Department responded to a fire in a home at 513 Alabama Ave., Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at 9:20 a.m. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire in the single-family residence.

Firefighters responded to a report from a passerby of smoke coming from the single-story home. Once on the scene, fire crews reported smoke coming from the attic vents. Firefighters entered the structure and rescued two people from inside the home. Firefighters deployed a single hose line into the home and quickly extinguished the fire that had originated in the kitchen.

The cause of this fire is undetermined as investigators remain on the scene conducting their investigation. There were no firefighter injuries reported. Two people were rescued from the home. One occupant was treated on scene and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the second refused medical treatment. The occupants will be displaced as a result of the damage.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan. Smoke alarms can provide early notification when seconds count.
