Garden Hills Drainage Improvement Project Bid Opening

In March 2020 the City issued seven bid packets for the Garden Hills Drainage Improvement Project, which included the demolition of 17 properties on Hedge Road. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the bid openings were postponed until June 9, 2020. Typically, the City opens and reads bids aloud 30 minutes after the bid due date and time. However, the City modified the process to include a minimum 24-hour waiting period between the bid due date/time and the bid opening date as a precautionary measure against COVID-19 infection. Bids were opened on June 11, 2020 by the City Clerk and broadcast via an online meeting platform. The meeting was streamed live on Champaign’s cable access channel, CGTV and on the City’s website.

Demolition bids were received from eight contractors. Demolition Bids and contracts are expected to be awarded on July 7, 2020, with demolition to begin in late July 2020.
