Street Crimes Task Force Makes Gun-Related Arrest

The Champaign County group arrested a 16-year-old male in Urbana for unlawful handgun posession.

On July 22, 2020, at approximately 4:33 p.m., the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force arrested a 16-year-old male in the 700 block of Webber Street in Urbana for a warrant of apprehension for Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. This warrant was obtained by the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office on July 21, 2020, as part of a collaborative, ongoing criminal investigation with the Street Crimes Task Force into individuals illegally possessing firearms.

The arrest was made without incident following a foot pursuit. Members of the Street Crimes Task Force observed a weapon dropping from his person prior to the arrest being made. A loaded handgun was recovered by the Task Force. The juvenile was taken to the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center where he is awaiting future court proceedings.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
