2 Dead In Rural Coal City Homicide-Suicide: Coroner

COAL CITY, IL — Authorities in Grundy County have identified the husband and wife who were found dead Monday afternoon inside their farmhouse near Coal City. The deaths of Gary Lissy Jr. and his wife, Judy, are being investigated as a homicide-suicide, the sheriff's office said.

Gary Lissy was 58 and Judy Lissy was 68, chief deputy coroner Brandon Johnson told Patch. The Lissys were farmers and long-time Coal City area residents, according to people who knew them.

The Grundy County Coroner's Office said that family members found the couple dead inside their house. Sheriff's deputies responded to the house in the 2000 block of South Carbon Hill Road around 3 p.m. May 11. Gary Lissy and Judy Lissy both died from gunshot wounds, police said.

"No further details are being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and the Coroner’s Office," the coroner's office announced Tuesday night.

Johnson told Patch that investigators are still in the process of determining who was the shooter.

The Lissys lived about two miles from Coal City, authorities told Patch.
