3 Daytime House Burglars Target Channahon, Prompt HS Lockdown

Police cited an abundance of caution for putting Minooka Community High School, South Campus in Channahon, on a temporary soft lockdown.

CHANNAHON, IL — Three daytime burglars who were breaking into houses in the 26000 block of Hemlock Road escaped town and avoided capture by the Channahon Police Department on Monday afternoon, authorities announced.

The Channahon Police Department posted on Facebook the following events surrounding the crime:

At 1:53 p.m., Channahon officers were dispatched to the 26000 block of Hemlock Road in response to a home burglary in progress. Someone reported a broken glass door at a neighboring house and saw three men run from the home westbound toward Yellow Pine Road.

Two men wore yellow construction vests and medical masks. The third wore a black shirt, black pants and was carrying a backpack.

Officers from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Minooka Police and Shorewood Police assisted with the investigation and a perimeter was established and officers began a canvass of the surrounding homes and businesses.

Out of an abundance of caution, Minooka Community High School, South Campus in Channahon, was put on a temporary soft lockdown.

Officers learned the burglars used a silver mini-van as their getaway vehicle.

No other burglaries or similar incidents have been reported. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to residents.
