MORRIS, IL — The Grundy County Sheriff's Office has issued a press release regarding Wednesday morning's fatal wreck near the small community of Kinsman that ended the life of a 23-year-old pickup truck driver from Streator.
According to the agency, at 7:09 a.m., Grundy County Sheriff’s
deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Kinsman Road and Prairie Road for a two-vehicle crash with one of the drivers being ejected.
Grundy County said the red 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling east on Prairie Road approaching the intersection of Kinsman Road, where traffic is controlled by a stop sign. A brown 2013 Ford Escape was traveling north on Kinsman Road, approaching the intersection with Prairie Road. The red pickup truck failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection, where it was struck on the passenger side, the sheriff's office said.
The impact caused the pickup truck to roll over, ejecting the driver, who police say was not wearing a seat belt. The driver was transported from the scene by Seneca EMS to Morris Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.
The driver who died has been identified as Carlin J. McGarvey, 23, of Streator. The driver of the Ford Escape, a 22-year-old woman from Kinsman, sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Seneca Fire Department and EMS were assisted at the
scene by Verona/Kinsman Fire and Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Ambulance.
The crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.
