Reward Offered In Wilmington Bank Robbery
The vehicle fled on Route 6 and was later found abandoned by Joliet police.
WILMINGTON, IL — An armed robbery at a Wilmington U.S. Bank branch, 417 S. Water St., on Saturday morning had police in several communities on alert after two suspects were seeing fleeing the area. Wilmington police said two men with handguns entered the bank at around 10:10 a.m. and demanded cash, escaping with an unknown amount of money before fleeing in a late-model silver Ford Mustang.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Both armed robbers are described as black males. The FBI said one suspect was bald and wore a dark blue zip-up jacket with an American flag on the right shoulder, a black knit hat, black face mask and white gloves. The other suspect wore a gray Under Armour-brand hooded sweatshirt, a black cloth over his face and white gloves.
A Channahon police officer spotted the Mustang on Route 6 near I-55 a short time after the robbery, but eventually lost sight of the vehicle in traffic, according to Wilmington police. Police in Channahon said the two armed suspects were being sought in the area of Youngs Road and Amaco Road, but are no longer believed to be in the area.
