MINOOKA – The Beard family behind the Beard Family Flower Farm believes flowers bring a feeling of peace that everyone should be able to bring home with them.

The Beard Family Flower Farm allows for people to do this through their flower stand at the front of their farm at 13217 Grove Road in Minooka.

“Beard Family Flower Farm is a family-run flower farm growing fresh-cut, field-grown flowers right here in Minooka,” Owner Lisa Beard said in a news release. “We grow, harvest, and sell our flowers locally through our farm stand, flower subscriptions, farmers markets, and seasonal offerings. Our flowers are meant to bring people back to the present moment and make ordinary days feel a little more special.”

The farm and stand are open seasonally from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Specific days and farmers market locations are updated at beardfamilyflowerfarm.com or on its Facebook page.

In July, the Channahon Minooka and Grundy County Chamber held a ribbon cutting at the farm to celebrate their first official year in business. The Chamber team, ambassadors, Village of Minooka officials and the Beard family gathered at the farm for a brief tour and to learn more about the farm.

“Not only do the flowers bring joy at the Beard farm, but so does the family,” Chamber President & CEO Christina Van Yperen said. “You can see the love and pride in all of them as they share their flower farm with you. The flowers and family will keep you coming back.”

Beard Family Flower Farm specializes in unique, seasonal cut flowers not found in grocery stores such as peonies, dahlias, specialty zinnias and more. The flowers are grown on site and harvested throughout the season, so offerings constantly change.

“We want people to know that Beard Family Flower Farm is more than a place to buy flowers. It's a place to slow down, connect, and enjoy the moment you're actually in. We believe the best moments in life feel a lot like live music — immersive, emotional, and gone before you know it. That's the feeling we try to grow into every bouquet,” Beard said.

Like their flowers, the Beard family plans to grow their offerings as a whole. They plan to include perennial flowers and to apply for grants to add hoop houses to the farm with the goal of extending the growing season to allow the community to enjoy locally grown flowers even longer. In addition, there will be hands-on experiences at the farm in the future such as build-your-own flower bouquet classes.

During the holiday season, Beard Family Flower Farm also creates handmade Christmas wreaths, incorporating flowers and foliage grown on the farm and carefully dried throughout the season for a uniquely local, seasonal touch.

“Sometimes you just need flowers because it's Tuesday. Our farm stand is a place where you can come out to the country, wander over to the flower buckets, pick out something beautiful, and take a little piece of the farm home with you. And yes, you can absolutely show up in your pajamas. We're a no-judgment zone,” Beard said.

“We also want people to know that when they shop with us, they're supporting a local family and a small agricultural business. Every bouquet, every farm stand visit, every class, and every market purchase helps us continue growing this dream. Our hope is that Beard Family Flower Farm becomes a place people associate with good flowers, good people, and good moments — the kind of place you come back to because you know you'll leave feeling a little better than when you arrived,” she continued.
