Braidwood Identity Thief Faces 2 Charges: Prosecutors

Braidwood Police officers took the 43-year-old woman into custody earlier this month. Here's why.

BRAIDWOOD, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office has charged a 43-year-old Braidwood woman with aggravated identity theft and unlawful use of another person's credit card in connection with an October investigation led by the Braidwood Police Department. Danita Morgan, who lives in the 600 block of West Cermak Road, was hauled away in handcuffs by Braidwood officers Nov. 12, jail logs show.

According to the criminal complaint, Morgan used another man's VISA credit card between Oct. 5-18 "to fraudulently obtain cigarettes, gasoline and gift cards and the value of goods obtained exceeded $300 but did not exceed $10,000 and the victim was 60 years old of age or older …"

The second charge accuses Morgan of victimizing the same older man, on Oct. 11, by using his VISA credit card to obtain gasoline.

Morgan was taken into custody on Nov. 12. Five days later, she was released from the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of her bail, which was set at $4,800.
