Channahon Police Pursuit: Car Thief Suspect Captured

Channahon police say the SUV was last seen traveling at excessive speeds northbound on Interstate 55.

CHANNAHON, IL —One overnight car thief was captured early Monday morning by Channahon Police officers but the teenager's accomplice managed to speed away on Interstate 55, Channahon's Police Department announced Monday.

According to deputy chief Adam Bogart, officers were called to a car burglary around 3 a.m. Jan. 20 in the Amberleigh Estate neighborhood where a silver Jeep SUV was seen fleeing the area. A few minutes later, Channahon Police learned that a Nissan Murano had been stolen in Channahon's Hunter's Crossing subdivision.

"As officers were investigating the stolen Nissan, the stolen Nissan returned to the area, along with the silver Jeep SUV. Officers pursued both vehicles,"Bogart's press release notes.

During the police chase, the stolen Nissan crashed near Tallgrass Trail and Woodrush Way.

"Officers took the juvenile driver into custody at the scene of the crash. The driver was the lone occupant in the stolen Nissan,"police said, adding that the teenage car thief was not injured.

As for the driver of the Jeep SUV, he got away.

Channahon police say the SUV was last seen traveling at excessive speeds northbound on Interstate 55.

"The driver of the stolen Nissan is currently in custody at the River Valley Juvenile Detention Facility on multiple charges stemming from the incident," Bogart stated.
