Fire Damages Channahon House On Hummingbird Drive

Channahon's Fire Protection District said Wednesday night's house fire has left a family displaced.

CHANNAHON, IL — Nobody was injured at a house fire that broke out Wednesday night in the 24200 block of West Hummingbird Drive, Channahon fire officials announced. However, the fire caused extensive damage to both levels of the house and the American Red Cross are assisting the family who lived here.

Channahon Fire Protection District sent fire engines rto the house fire around 10:45 p.m. Firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof. Everyone who lived at the house had made it outside safely.

Channahon firefighters said the fire was contained to the attic but the entire house had smoke and water damage. It took the firefighters about an hour to have the blaze under control. Firefighters remained at the scene until around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

"The cause of the fire appears to be accidental. No dollar loss was available at the time of the fire investigation," authorities announced Thursday.

Agencies assisting at the scene included Minooka Fire, Troy Fire, Elwood Fire, Wilmington Fire, Lockport Fire, Morris Fire, and Plainfield Fire.

Channahon said its fire chaplain along with the American Red Cross are working with the family to provide support services.
