CHANNAHON, IL - It's almost time for the ultimate summer celebration: The 4th of July 2018 is right around the corner, and area communities are gearing up for Independence Day celebrations, complete with fireworks, food, live music and more. Here's a look at how and when area towns are celebrating.

Channahon

  • What: Independence Day Celebration featuring a "freedom parade" with kids, pets and bikes, a foam pit, sand art, inflatables, face-painting, live music from the Sushi Roll Band, dodge ball, concessions, drinks and an after-fireworks party until 10:30 p.m.
  • When: 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. July 4
  • Where: Community Park, 23304 W. McClintock Road
  • Cost: Free admission (concessions by Pam's Academy of Dance and Taco Burrito King available for purchase)
  • Schedule:
    • 5:30 p.m. Foam pit, sand art, inflatables, face painting, Freedom Parade decorating, concert in the park with Sushi Roll
    • 6 p.m. Freedom Parade
    • 7 p.m. Dodge ball tournament at tennis courts
    • 9:15 p.m. Fireworks by Fire Alarm Fireworks Co.Joliet
  • What: Independence Celebration and Fireworks featuring food and brews, live music and more.
  • When: 6 to 10 p.m. July 3; fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
  • Where: Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park, 201 W. Jefferson St. at Bluff Street
  • Cost: Free (food and drinks available for purchase)

Joliet

  • What: Grundy County Fair fireworks: Admission is free for the fireworks, but there are fees for some events/activities at the fair, which features rides, games, livestock demonstrations/judging, Magic Matt's Family Fun Show, eating contests, street stock racing and more.
  • When: 7:30 p.m. July 2 Grandstand Show & Fireworks – live music from the Ethan Bell Band followed by fireworks
  • Where: Grundy County Fairgrounds, 8890 Route 47
  • Cost: Free
