91-Year-Old Woman Dies In House Fire Near Coal City
Friday morning's fire happened in the small community of Carbon Hill. Coal City firefighters responded to the blaze.

CARBON HILL, IL — The Grundy County Coroner's Office announced that Friday morning's house fire killed a 91-year-old woman from Carbon Hill. The fire in the 900 block of Judson Street broke out shortly after 9 a.m., according to the coroner's staff.
The Coal City Fire Protection District responded to the burning structure and found the homeowner unresponsive inside. Phyllis V. Richardson, 91, was pronounced dead at the scene around 10:05 a.m.
Richardson's death remains under investigation by Grundy County Coroner John Callahan’s office, Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, Coal City Fire Protection District and the Office of the State Fire Marshal, authorities said.

A radio station in Morris reported that damage to the house was about $100,000 and the house did not have working smoke detectors.
The fire's cause was believed to be electrical, according to radio station WSPY.
