Man, 82, Dead, Elderly Woman Survives Rural Minooka Fire
The Minooka Fire Department along with other agencies including the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office is investigating.
MINOOKA, IL — An 82-year-old Minooka man trapped inside his house during Monday night's fire later died at Morris Hospital, according to Grundy County Coroner John Callahan.
The coroner's office identified the victim as rural Minooka resident Doit Ross.
- According to the Minooka Fire Protection District:
- Firefighters were called to 4625 East Shady Oaks Road for a structure fire at 8 p.m. Monday.
- Minooka police relayed that one elderly man was still inside and had not evacuated.
- Firefighters entered the house and found the man inside the living room area. Minooka paramedics rushed him to the Morris Hospital where he was pronounced around 10 p.m.
- One elderly woman evacuated the house during the fire on her own. She was taken to an area hospital with burns. Her condition was unknown as 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to Minooka Deputy Fire Chief Brad Sprague.
- The fire was brought under control at 8:17 p.m.
- In addition to Minooka, firefighters from Channahon, Troy, Morris, Elwood and Plainfield helped battle the fire.
- The State Fire Marshal's Office and the Grundy County Sheriff's Office are helping Minooka investigate the cause of the fatal fire.
