Eagle Boys Look to Take Next Step

Disappointing end to last season hopefully spurs Eagles on to new heights.

The 2013-14 basketball season ended in disappointing fashion for the Families of Faith Screaming Eagles. The Eagles lost the South Shore Christian Conference championship game 77-69 after leading for more than three quarters of the game. Their leader, Josiah Blan, graduated and took with him most of the schools basketball records.

And yet, as the 2014-15 season prepares to tip off next Friday at home versus Parkview Christian, the Eagles are thinking they’d like another shot at that championship game.

Most teams would be thinking of re-building, but the Eagles are hopeful that the returning players and the new additions will gel soon enough to that they can make another run.

The Eagles lost key contributors in the aforementioned Josiah Blan, who is playing at Olivet Nazarene this year, fellow graduate Cody Kern and Brandon Cline.

The Eagles welcome back Cody Blan though who will help to keep the offense solid. Thanks to a solid summer of work, the Eagles are expecting bigger production from Cameron Latour and Stephen Bestler. Another returning player who is expecting bigger things will be Vincent Dorantes. FOFCA AD, Kenton Ayers, said; “Stephen is playing better than he was last year before he broke his ankle and Vincent had a good summer in AAU. So, hopefully Stephen can stay healthy and Vincent’s health problems are behind him and both can just focus on basketball this year”.

The Eagles added some exciting depth this year as well in 5’11” sophomore Thomas Larson, 6’ sophomore TJ Daufenbach, 6’5” sophomore Amari Morgan and 5’10” junior Jordan Welsh. “We expect all of these guys to become key players as the season progresses”, Ayers said. “The addition of a JV team and a full JV schedule for these guys to develop faster in will help”.

The Eagles tip off on Friday, November 14 at home versus Parkview Christian. The Eagles play 3 of 4 November games and host their tournament on November 22, so there are plenty of opportunities to catch the Eagles early in the year at home.
