Elderly Channahon Woman May Have Frozen to Death in Her Garage

The 86-year-old woman, found Monday night in the garage of her South Marble Road home, may be Will County's first cold death.

An 86-year-old Channahon woman found dead in her garage may have been killed by the cold.

Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil’s office said “cold exposure is a possible contributing factor” in the death of Betty L. Price.

If so, Price is the first casualty of this winter’s cold weather.

Price was found in the garage of her South Marble Road home shortly after 9 p.m. Monday. She was taken to the Will County morgue and an autopsy was performed Wednesday.

The homeless, elderly and chronically ill are among the most vulnerable as temperatures drop. The combination of cold and accumulating snow will be particularly dangerous.
