Fatal Wilmington Fire Takes Life Of 56-Year-Old Resident

The Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Will County Sheriff's Office is now investigating the circumstances of Tuesday morning's fire.

WILMINGTON, IL —The Will County Coroner’s Office announced that 56-year-old Wilmington resident Joseph Rygula died Tuesday morning during a structure fire.

The coroner's office said that Rygula was pronounced dead around 6 a.m. in the 34000 block of South Old Chicago Road, which is in rural Wilmington. The Illinois State Fire Marshall and the Will County Sheriff's Office is now investigating the incident.

The Wilmington Fire Protection District was called to put out Tuesday's early morning blaze.

Tuesday's autopsy determined that Rygula suffered thermal injuries, authorities said. The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date pending police, autopsy, and toxicological report, officials said.
