Foster Kids in Need of School Supplies
A Joliet event will help provide the materials and show kids and adults a good time.

Every child deserves an education and to get that education they need basic school supplies. Janet Lynn, of Project ME, is making sure they get it.
Lynn and her husband are foster parents and Project ME aims to ensure foster kids are getting the supplies they need to succeed in school.
A school supply fundraiser will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 16 at the Sons of the American Legion Post 1080 located at 2625 Ingalls Ave. in Joliet. The event is free.

Lynn is asking for people to come out and attend the event and donate items like folders, notebooks, paper, backpacks (new or gently used), crayons, markers, pens or pencils. Any basic school items that a child might need is requested.
“We’re going to deliver them to all the families,” Lynn said. “We don’t need anything fancy.”

But the event isn’t just for getting supplies, there will be many activities for kids and adults. Kids will be able to create a free craft while parents browse around and look at other vendors. There will also be a raffle.
Kids can create their own “study buddy” plush toy, which they can stuff by hand. The cost to make one is $12 if registered by Aug. 12 or $15 at the door. Everyone is welcome to create one for a child in need for $12. Proceeds will go toward purchasing backpacks for Project ME.
Vendors include For Tails Only with Jim Miller, Posh by Christine, Candle Party Guy, Palkon Parties, jamberry vendor Maggie Marquez, Joliet Macaroni Kid, tupperware vendor Thania Ortiz, Usborne Books and more.
Right now, Lynn has about 148 foster kids that have signed up to receive supplies.
If you’re unable to attend, you can call Lynn at 815 531-5875 to set up a drop off.
