Four Straight for Minooka?

Host Indians in position for another SPC girls golf championship

The Minooka High School girls golf team will try to make it four straight Southwest Prairie Conference championships at the league meet Thursday at Inwood Golf Course in Joliet.

The  three-time defending champion and host Indians and past league doormat Plainfield East are tied with eight points each heading into the meet.

The SPC boys meet will be just as close as Minooka tries to catch league-leader Plainfield North, which was 6-1 in league duals. Oswego and Plainfield Central had two conference losses each during the league season.

The Indians had one dual win during the regular league season.

The meet will be held Tuesday at Whitetail Ridge Golf Course in Yorkville. Plainfield North is the host team.

Girls Volleyball

Minooka remained perfect in Southwest Prairie Conference play by posting a 25-20, 25-21 road win over Plainfield South on Thursday in Plainfield.

Minooka is 11-2 overall and 6-0 with one league game left in the first half of the season. It’s against Plainfield North on Tuesday in Minooka.

Against the Cougars, Stacey Perinar had 12 kills and five digs and Kate Lanagan (10 assists) and Kelli Holstine (11 assists) combined with 21 assists in the absence of starting setter Bri Marquez.

Skyler Day (four kills) and Ann Marie Bachmann (five kills) also provided some offensive punch. Haley Bowden and Brittany Furjanic led the defense with four digs each.

Girls Tennis

Minooka’s Laura Dombkowski and Christine Parkinson beat Oswego’s Tori Anians and Claire Wojnarowski 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles during the Indians’ 6-1 Southwest Prairie Conference loss to Oswego.

Oswego sophomore Courtney Gooch posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Minooka senior Melissa Wunderlich at No. 1 singles. Minooka fell to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in SPC duals.
