From Earth-Friendly Creations to Fairies
Local events are starting to grow as the weather gets nicer.
It was darn cold on April 20 when residents of gathered in to celebrate Earth Day. But attendees made bookmarks, paper, potentially with seeds to be planted and painted suncatchers.
I took my two boys, who braved the cold much better than I did, stopping to play on the playground on the way in and on the way out. I remember when we first moved to Channahon, the playground at Community Park was very retro. It reminded me of my own childhood. Since that time, though, the park district has upgraded the park, even adding a Spiderman-like climbing apparatus up on the hill.
When they were younger, they loved going to Fairy Fest at Pilcher Park Nature Center. In some ways, they have outgrown the festival. But lots of boys go to the event dressed as boy fairies or as bugs. We are going over there this year. to get your tickets to the .

This year, the festival is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., May 5. Admission is $10 per person. For $5 additional, you can join the fairies for a fairy breakfast. You can buy your tickets now by calling 815-741-7277.
