Giant Fire Consumes Channahon Family Of 4's House In Hunters Crossing Subdivision: Fire District

CHANNAHON, IL — The new fire chief for the Channahon Fire Protection District has issued a press release in regard to Monday's 4 a.m. fire that destroyed a family's home.

According to fire chief Michael McMillin, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the Channahon Fire Protection District was dispatched for a reported structure fire in the 26000 block of West Winding Oak Trail in Channahon.

Fire crews arrived on the scene and reported a fully involved home fire. The residence was occupied at the time of the incident and occupants, along with their pets, evacuated prior to fire district arrival.

The size of the fire brought in equipment and personnel from Minooka, Wilmington, Troy, Lockport, Plainfield, Elwood, Joliet, Morris, and the Wilmington ESDA rehab unit.

The Channahon Police Department maintained traffic control for the duration of the incident. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but deemed to be accidental. The MABAS Division Fire Investigation Team is assisting Channahon Fire Protection District with the fire
investigation and SERVPRO was called to the scene to assist with securing the residence and damage caused by the fire.

Afterward, the Hive Kitchen in Channahon announced on Facebook the creation of the Hunters Crossing Fire Donations fund-raiser. "A Channahon family were devastated by a house fire on September 14 losing their home and cars. They are overwhelmed at the moment and will need help in the immediate future with clothing, bedding, toiletries and more. There are two kids and two adults and we are taking monetary donations for them to be able to purchase some of the things they need in the immediate aftermath."
