Graduation Party Shooting In Morris; Teen Arrested: Police
What started as a report of underage drinking ended with a shooting investigation overnight in Morris, police said.
MORRIS, IL — A teen was arrested overnight after police found a gunshot victim outside a Morris graduation party, according to authorities.
Maxwell D. Williams, 18, of the 5500 block of Sand Ridge Road, was taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated battery with a firearm, police said.
Deputies first responded around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to the scene in the 5500 block of Sand Ridge Road for a report of underage drinking, according to police, who said the homeowner told them that he was having a graduation party for his son and daughter. A sergeant returned about 30 minutes later to ensure the scene was clear and saw several people surrounding a white Lexus whose driver had been shot in the head, police said.

The female victim was taken to Morris Hospital, and Williams was arrested around 2 a.m. Sunday and brought to Grundy County jail to await a bond hearing, according to police. A .380-caliber Smith & Wesson M&P handgun was recovered from the scene, police said.
