Squad Car Thief Arrested, Morris Police Announce

This 18-year-old from Morris is now adjusting to his new surroundings at the Grundy County Jail.

MORRIS, IL —An 18-year-old Morris resident, Michael Naughton, is now incarcerated in the Grundy County Jail in connection with last week's daring theft of a Grundy County Sheriff's squad car, as well as the officer's gun, during a house burglary. On Monday, Morris Police announced Naughton was arrested on charges of possessing a stolen gun. The gun that was stolen from the Grundy County Sheriff's deputy has been recovered, police revealed.

"A cooperative effort between the Morris Police Department, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, and the Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad (JMANS) has led to recovery of the stolen firearm and an arrest," the Grundy County Sheriff's Office also announced on Facebook. "We would like to thank the Morris Police Department and JMANS for the investigative teamwork that led to the recovery of the firearm and the arrest of Michael Naughton."

Last week, Morris Police announced they were investigating a residential burglary to a Grundy County Sheriff's deputy's house. The crime happened around 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14.
