
JOLIET, IL — A former Homer Glen resident was sentenced to more than four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in connection with a drunken driving crash on Interstate 55 near Channahon that killed a 60-year-old Wilmington man during the summer of 2017.
On Thursday, Will County Judge Carmen Goodman sentenced 30-year-old Lucas Roth to four years and six months imprisonment for causing the death of motorist Michael DeBoard.
As part of a plea agreement with Will County prosecutors, Roth pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence and other similar charges were dismissed.

DeBoard was rear-ended by Roth's Kia Optima at 2:20 a.m. Aug. 9 on I-55 near Channahon's Bluff Road exit. The impact sent DeBoard's 1997 Ford Aspire off the right side of I-55. He hit an embankment and rolled over. DeBoard, 60, died almost two weeks later on Aug. 21, 2017.
In August 2018, Will County Judge Dave Carlson the bond for Roth, then 28, related the August 2017 collision that killed DeBoard. Roth had failed to show up for his pretrial court hearing on Monday.
