I-80 Travelers With 1 Functioning Headlight Arrested By Will County Deputies Near Ridge Road: Sheriff

MINOOKA, IL — The Will County Sheriff's Office issued a Facebook bulletin on Wednesday revealing that a 47-year-old woman from Connecticut and a 28-year-old man from New York were arrested along Interstate 80 in connection with cocaine possession and several stolen credit cards.

According to the sheriff's agency, around midnight on Tuesday, a Will County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a vehicle speeding on I-80 westbound with only one functional headlight. The deputy conducted a traffic stop near Ridge Road and found three adults inside the vehicle and a strong odor of cannabis coming from inside the car. The deputy also spotted an open bag of cannabis in the center of the vehicle, authorities said.

After assisting deputies arrived, they searched the vehicle and found pry marks around backseat cupholders. Deputies lifted the cupholders and found a large compartment with three packages inside that field tested positive as cocaine, 7.1 grams in total, Will County's press release announced.

Inside the large compartment were also eight credit cards with different names. Deputies also found three bags of cannabis, two of which were open, according to Will County.

The driver, 28-year-old Imani Thomas of New York. and his backseat passenger, 47-year-old Kristy Spring of Connecticut, were arrested. A third passenger was released. Thomas was charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance and Spring was charged with eight counts of unlawful possession of another credit/debit card.

After being taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, correctional officers said they found Spring in possession of approximately 1 gram of crack cocaine, and she was charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance.

Meanwhile, after sunrise, the two East Coast travelers were let out of the Will County Jail by mid-morning. Both are due back in court on March 9.

As always, charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
