Lane Closure for Emergency Bridge Deck Patching

Repairs to the hole are underway now. The lane is expected to reopen by 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16.

CHANNAHON, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is alerting motorists of a lane closure on the southbound Interstate 55 bridge over the BNSF Railroad on Wednesday, Dec 16. The closure is necessary to perform emergency bridge deck patching to repair a hole in the bridge deck.

The bridge is located about 8 miles south of Interstate 80 and about 4 miles south of Channahon in Will County.

Repairs to the hole are underway now. The lane is expected to reopen by 7:30 p.m.

The closure will reduce traffic to one lane. It is expected to cause significant delays. Motorists should allow extra time for trips through this area.
