Local Group Accepting Donations For Those Left in Need Following Tornadoes

The group will be accepting donations at Plymouth Congregational Church in Plainfield.

A local group is accepting donations Wednesday and Thursday for those in need following the tornadoes and storms that ravaged Coal City and other towns south and west of Chicago.

The group Helping Hugs is accepting the following:

  • Bottled water
  • Work gloves
  • Safely glasses
  • First aid kits
  • First aid supplies
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Toiletries
  • Gift cards to Walmart, Target, Home Depot, and for fast food
  • Large sturdy trash bags
  • Diapers
  • Wipes
  • Baby food
  • Formula
  • Easy snacks like breakfast bars, protein bars

Donations can be dropped off at Plymouth Congregational Church at the Corner of Illinois and Lockport streets in downtown Plainfield. Donations will be accepted from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday and 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday.

The group is not accepting clothing donations at this time and will make plans for volunteers to travel to the area when it is deemed safe to do so.
